2018 Wrap Up
Wow, what a year it has been. With my first year out of school, I honestly had no idea what to expect. I deferred university, turned down a couple of scholarships and decided to give this startup thing a go and looking back, I am so glad I did.
Kicking off the year, I wanted to learn as much as possible. I was still pretty new to this whole business thing, I had no degree and not a lot of experience so I started searching for accelerators. What I found was the Collider accelerator at Creative Enterprise Australia.
Focussing on all things creative technology I felt right at home and had the absolute pleasure of working with some phenomenal founders in a three month intensive program learning how to build scalable businesses. Throughout the accelerator I got to work with companies I idolised, learn from some of the most remarkable business people in Australia and even spent a week adventuring around Thailand learning about the Thai startup culture.
After we wrapped up the accelerator our base was built and it was time to get out there. We’d built some pretty awesome products and programs and built a solid foundation for scale and we were ready to show Australia what we’d be working so hard on. Fortunately, Australia liked what we had and that saw us on over 40 flights over the year and flying over 80,000kms (enough to fly around the world twice). Travelling extensively across regional Queensland, broader Australia and also into Asia was an absolute ball and gave me experiences that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
From partying with prime ministers to presenting to company executives; 2018 has had a fair bit in store for this fresh 18 year old but it has been a year that I don’t think I will ever forget. I gave my first TED Talk on building the 21st century classroom, I was featured in QWeekend and I even got to partner with some awesome companies like Virgin Australia.
Charging ahead into 2019 I now have a team that is four times larger than the team I had going into 2018; we are in the process of launching our global expansion; and I am absolutely loving every minute. I’m also super excited to announce that I’m going to be extending what has been the best gap year ever and I won’t be going to university in 2019. Instead, I’m going to spend my time growing my business, helping our wonderful clients and showing young people all around the world just how amazing they can be.
2019 will see us taking our educational programs to markets around Australia as well as around the world as we work to spread our impact. As well as this, we’re also revamping our holograms to be a full marketing and events consulting company that will be responsible for curating immersive experiences for our clients through the use of new and emerging technologies. I’ll be sharing more on this in a future post early next year but I am seriously excited about this one and would definitely recommend keeping your eyes peeled.
Well, that enough from me but before I go I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone that has supported us over the past 12 months. Every single one of you has made an impact on us and helped us get to where we are now. Whether it was something as simple as an encouraging comment on our socials to keep us going or even some direct mentoring, you have all helped in your own special way and we love you for it.
I hope you have a very happy holidays and I can’t wait to see you again in 2019! As for me, I’m going to be taking a much needed break for the final few days of 2018 and I’ll see you all back and ready to rock and roll in 2019.
